Medical jobs for pre-nursing student in VA?

Hi All,

My question may be better suited to the "Nursing Student" forum, but I was hoping that experienced nurses could advise me on good medical jobs for pre-nursing students.

About me:

I am currently in my second semester of pre-nursing classes toward an ADN, and am planning to get my RN-MSN (I have a BA in another field) once I finish school and get my first RN job. I heard a rumor that one of the major hospitals in Richmond is no longer hiring ADN nurses and am concerned that I will be at a great disadvantage. Money and time-wise, there is no way I can get my BSN now, so I would very much like to do all I can to get a hospital job that get can me in the door, and a step ahead before I start Nursing school and am eligible for a Patient Care tech position.

I've applied to almost every job posted by the major hospitals in the Richmond, VA area; mostly filing clerk positions, uncertified tech positions, secretarial, and materials handling positions. I don't have EMT experience, nor any certifications yet, so the pickings are rather slim. I have a decent prior work experience, my GPA is excellent, and I am volunteering in one hospital, but so far, none of this has helped in finding work. Am I missing something? I know there are other students in a position similar to mine, and with as little medical experience and they have hospital jobs. What are these jobs and how can I find them? Any help or advice is appreciated!

Thanks!!:)

I am applying for entrance into a nursing program for next fall. Here in NC you have to be a CNA before the first day of your nursing program. I just graduated from HS and got my Certification in July and have been working at my local hospital ever since, and I like it. Maybe CNA is something you can look into.
