Medical Esthetic Nursing

U.S.A. New Hampshire

Hi All,

I know this is the NH site but figured you guys are so close you may also have helpfull info for me as well.

I am an RN in MA and currently in the beginning stages of opening a skin care shop. I have found loads of information on the field of Medical Esthetic Nursing in other states but not much in Ma. I have found a few operations in Massachusetts run by nurses but no training / certification for nurses in this field.

I have decided to take the licensing course to become an Esthetician but only because I need the proper licensure/exp. to open up a shop. If I didnt have this license myself I would have to keep someone on staff at all times who did have it.

Anyhow - Does anyone have any info on this field specific to Massachusetts? The only thing I have found in Ma that comes close to the training found in other states is a course at Catherine Hinds and that does not certify you as a "Medical Esthetic RN" it is an advanced class for Estheticians. I would take the class but It is full time, 5 days / wk for 20+ weeks. I have 3 small kids & just cant be gone that long or I could have a divorce on my hands (oh, add 1+ hour drive to Woburn and back each day)

Thanks so much for reading, any info will be greatly appreciated.

So you're an RN who wants to be an esthetician, hm? I am an esthetician who wants to be an RN :) Actually...at this point I have let my license lapse. I went to Catherine Hines (in Medford) because at the time, NH did not have any kind of esthetics schooling and actually did not even license estheticians separately. This was over 10 years ago.

Currently Im going attending SJS of Practical Nursing. I have thought that I might like to actually work with a dermatologist in some way. I have also thought about the medical esthetics field, though I do not really have a knowledge base of it. My understanding is that someone in the field of medical esthetics would be working in a dermatologists office and working under him. Truly...I don't really see what you'd be able to without a doctor helping you in the way of 'real' treatments.

I will be looking forward to any kind of info you find on this!

So what happened? This message was posted 2 years ago - did you get your esthetician license & open a skin shop? I am an LPN hoping to break out of the nursing home rut. Considering medical esthetics, but as you mentioned can only find courses at Catherine Hinds or Elizabeth Grady. Wondering if I should bother becoming an esthetician, especially since the pay is so much less than nursing. Would love to know the outcome of your story....

There is a school in Concord- The Asthetics institute right on South Main Street. I was also told there may be one on the seacost area- maybe Dover.

I am thinking of getting into this type of work in the future.

Keep me posted when you find something out.

I am new to this forum, I need your expert advice. I as well would like to become a nurse esthician in the state of Arizona. Are you able to take advanced class traing and be an esthician and have you own practice. Let me know what the rules are for this state.

Thank you,

Maggie

Hi my name is Taylor Im 18 years old and I am very interested in getting into esthetic nursing where I would perform botox, restalyn, laser etc.., I have just applied to college for pre-health in order to get into the nursing program the following year. Does anyone have any important advice or pointers for me? I'm not 100% sure on the courses I should be looking into in order to get into this field
