Hello!!

I would really like to get into MCG's BSN program and was wondering if anyone here has completed their BSN there? I currently have a BA in History but unfortunately am still short quite a few pre-req's. I have BIO 101 with lab and a Chemistry class with lab but I'm not sure if the Chem will transfer. I know I'll have to take A&P I and II, and maybe Chem and another Biology class I think. I have Math, English, and Humanities from my previous degree but my Math for example isn't the exact Math that MCG are asking for. Basically I was wondering if the fact I already have a degree means that the only pre-req's I would have to take are the Science classes?

Also, sorry another question :-) My final GPA for my BA was 3.1. Is that high enough to get accepted? Do they count the GPA from my past degree or just from my pre-req's? I received A's on my BIO and CHEM and a B+ on my Math.

I will contact the admissions office as soon as the holidays are over but was just wondering if any past or present students had any insight.

Thanks so much,

Louise xx

Hi Britmum,

From what I know about MCG, they have a CNL (Clinical Nurse Leadership)a masters degree program designed for students who have a previous bachelors degree in a field other than nursing. The minimum gpa to apply for the progam is a cumulative 3.0 gpa. That is over the entire degree so you should be fine in that respect. They require you to take the GRE or the MAT, and the required prerequisites are A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology, Statistics, Psychology, and Human Growth and Development, and six credits of chemistry. The program starts each Fall and lasts 16 months. I think that it is worth looking into. I hope this info helps. Check out the website http://www.mcg.edu/son/cnl.htm

Good luck on obtaining your BSN. MCG has a great BSN program that will soon be discontinued. They were affordable and most people that started at the school finished the program which was a big plus for me.

I believe after the 2009 class that Augusta State University will be taking over the BSN program, and MCG will be offering only the masters and doctors degree's in nursing. If you still have a few prerequisites to take my suggestion would be to check out either Augusta State, or USC in Aiken, SC. If you are looking for a RN ADN program then USC Aiken, Aiken Tech, and ASU all have the program, and Augusta Tech is going to start offering one in the near future. I hope this helps you in your decision.

Hey guys!

Well not to be the voice of dissent, but the rumor regarding MCG's program not continuing is just that...a rumor. My mom works there and I'm a prenursing student and when I heard, she went to go look into it for me. She called the nursing dept. and they said that that was simply incorrect. Also, ASU will no longer be offering an ASN program. It ended this past spring. They will now be offering BSN only.

Hope this all helps!

I worked for MCG and graduated from the school. My information came from nursing instructors at the college. I was referring another nurse to MCG for the RN to BSN program, and we were told she had best get her application into the school as they were cutting out the BSN program after ASU took it over. They would be focusing on the RN to MSN programs along with the Doctorate of Nursing degree. Perhaps MCG has changed that decision? Please keep us informed as I thought their program was excellent and would choose them first before attending ASU. Thanks again for the updated information.
