Medical assistant graduate pay

Published

I am graduating Dec 21 with my associates in medical assisting/xray tech. I live in the Midwest if that helps but I have no idea what to ask for pay wise when applications ask. Any advice or where to look for the average pay??

I'm not sure about the Midwest but here in Texas starting pay for new grad with NO experience ranges from $8-$12 and the cost of living is also higher here. 1-2 years experience can get you around $11-$13. I have 12 years experience as a CMA (6 of those being in management) and made $21 as my highest pay (I was office manager). This might seem difficult at first but I would suggest applying at a low key family practice/minor emergency to get some broad range experience and then apply to specialty for higher pay. Your xray tech certification might be a good selling point for them since most minor emergencies also provide xray services. You can always try applying at those "insurance mills" type of clinics also. They usually hire new grads. While you'll garner experience, the environment or bad reputation from those clinics might not be worth the trouble.

Good Luck!

I ended up getting on at a fairly large hospital here at their family practice clinic. They haven't told me pay since I haven't received proof I graduated yet. Kind of at a stand still. I was told maybe around $13-15 at family practice. They get paid the least I guess.

The practice I worked at started MAs at 13.00 or 13.50 in MI
