Medgar Evers and QBCC

I just started the nursing program at Medgar Evers this semester. I enrolled in school last year in Aug.2011. I took my pre reqs, took the nln, and was accepted the next school year which was pretty awesome! I had so many discouraging people around explaining the competition and make sure I apply other places because their gpa's were high and they couldn't get in, it's about who you know. Well, I'm proof that I didn't have to know anyone, my gpa was good, and I did decent on the nln. My first semester I took Eng 150, chem 105, and AP1. It went well. 2nd semester I took CIS 101 and AP2, and micro in the summer. That schedule seemed to work out pretty well for me, not too stressful. Hi KLM429...I attend MEC as well, I completed all pre reqs.., I'm just waiting now to take the nln Spring 2013. Do you mind me asking what score you got on the entrance exam? How is the program going for you? Ive heard the same rumours about MEC and I can't lie, it has gotten me a little worried. Congrats on your acceptance...

-Hey ladies, I am currently attending Medgar Evers . I am currently a readmit I initially started in Spring 2010 I did horribly due to some personal issues. In Spring 2010 my grades were as follows Eng 112 F, Mth120 INF, Psych F, FS101 INF, ArtC Bio101 C. This past Semester Fall 2012 I still did horribly. Eng 112 C, Math120 F, Psych B-, FS101 A, Chem 105 D, Chem lab C,. I find it extremely hard to focus with alot going on and that is the reason why I have been getting such horrible grades. Im just curious to know with having a past experience of receiving failing grades if I repeat both the Chemistry and Math courses and obtain an A do I have a chance of atleast being considered for the Nursing program. Or should I just quit and look into something else.Nursing seems to be my passion. Please Help I feel clueless.

Hello MrsComboCurlz:-)Thank you! Sure! My nln score composite was 133.It put me in the 93rd percentile. I believe you need at least a 100 but that doesn't make you very competitive. My gpa was a 3.7 almost a 3.8 cumulative. I did well in all my science classes which I believe they take a good look at.The program is going well for me, just finished my first semester with an A- in fundamentals, Yay! It was a ton of work! Yea the rumors are heavy at Medgar, but the classmates I had seem like they deserve to be there. There are hundreds of students applying for the nursing program, and they can't accept all the good ones, unfortunately. My class was the biggest class they've accepted and that was 80 students. So I believe they are trying to be as fair as possible, but they can't take everyone. Don't let the rumors worry you.Your best assets when applying are your nln, gpa, and grades in science courses. The nln practice book helps a lot :-)

I'm not sure if they have a limit on how many times you can take a pre req in order to be considered, good question though. I think they may but you should go verify. I would go to the 2nd floor in the A building and just ask, the very nice woman at the front desk would probably know the answer.It's the only big office on that floor with a secretary, same floor as the cafeteria.And they are open till about 5ish sometimes 6. But just a few words, I just finished my first semester of the program, the program is not very forgiving of what's happening in life outside the program. They want the program as your top priority and they make it very clear. If you are having a hard time focusing with pre reqs, it only gets worse in the program, much worse. I can't stress how much worse lol. I don't condone quitting, but look into what you want and gauge whether you can put in the work and focus realistically. The pre reqs take a lot of focus, and the program takes 3 times as much focus.:-)
