I have to take a med test before I can administer medications. The guide they gave me to study with says I need to know.
"Common lab tests used to monitor medication effectiveness or monitor for side effects. Also specific test for kidney and liver function"
So I know like serum lipase levels, and creatinine clearance... what else are they wanting me to be clear on? Peaks and troughs?
I know with like heparin and such you need to do Pt, PTT, and INR.
Are there any other lab values I need to be thinking of for this?

I'm not a nurse yet, but my husband just had to get lab tests done to make sure his meds weren't having unwanted side effects. The doc ordered LFTs and a CBC w/differential. She also did a comprehensive metabolic panel, which included eGFR, BUN, Creatinine, electrolytes, CO2, etc. With the LFTs, I know she was mostly interested in AST and ALT, but they also looked at Bilirubin, albumin and globulin. The CBC w/diff. included RBC AND WBC count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets, neutrophils, etc., etc.
