So I'm in my Med-Surg rotation and I have a PT with an ostomy pouch. Bc he has "short gut", everything he eats and drinks basically pours right into his pouch. So he normally has a foley drainage connected to his pouch.
I start my day, go in and say hi, I notice his pouch is intact with no drainage bag and almost bursting open. I ask his nurse why there's no foley bag she says "ugh I think we were waiting for someone to bring it up, I don't know, ask the CNA". Ok....so I ask the CNA she says they are in his room. I go look and all I see are the pouches. So my Instructor shows me how to measure and change them. But again no drainage bag. I'm literally emptying this pouch every 10 minutes to keep it from bursting. Sure enough we go on dinner break, I brief everyone in sight to take care of it, I come back, burst open everywhere. His skin is red and irritated and the nurse looks at me, laughs, and says "have fun". Btw, he has C-Diff. So again I ask her where we can get the drain bags, she says if they aren't there? I can stand and just hold a towel to his stoma, and wait for my instructor (who was on break as well). So I stand there for a good 15 minutes cleaning as it drains. Finally I look down, I see what I need, and page one of my fellow students to bring me a regular foley bag. I ask the patient if he wouldn't mind me applying the pouch, skin prep, all that, bc his skin just kept getting worse.
Took a bit to measure and cut right, but I rigged the whole thing. Got it done, watched the bile flow down into bag and baaaam! So excited! My instructor shows up 10 min later. She approves and moves on.
That's right She who forgets what it's like to be a student....I took initiative, on a non life threatening procedure and nailed it. Boom.
I hated dealing with nurses like that so redidulous...............think they are above others who are students! Its all good though you made it happen. Keep your head up!

Thanks Nikkinism70! It felt pretty great. I was just so annoyed at the nurse for just not caring.
