Good Luck. What many nurses don't realize is that M/S is ABSOLUTELY a speciality. I challenge any critical care nurse to come to M/S, take care of 5-8 acute patients and do it well!

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

You ratio 5-8!? That's probably part of the reasons nurses get burnt-out or leave the profession all together. With 8 patients, care at best is "okay".

I love med-surg for the variety, challenge, and tasks to complete while engaging with staff, patients, family, all the while using my nursings skills and judgement and turning around and acheiving great outcomes! I love our students from different programs, new nurses coming to start their grand spanking new careers, and veterans leading the way with their vast experiences. I respect our doctors and I think my lead nurses are great! I have fun with my co-workers and look forward to each and every new shift. I love going home weary knowing that I did my best and that I know as well that my peers worked their shifts with passion too! No slackers in my department! Go med-surg, today, :nurse: I love med-surg!:redbeathe

I love med surg too!

Med/Surg is great because it is the CORE of nursing!!! I too challenge the critical care nurses to walk a day in my shoes....FUNNY!!! i have seen it one too many times....LOST!!! thats what they are! lol not to bash critical care nurses I know they do their jobs well but we do not have those "fancy" monitors to tell us when our patient is going bad, we rely on judgement, knowledge, and skill!!! Nor do we have a "flowsheet" for everything, med/surg nurses have to think outside the box. And I would not trade it for anything! :)
