What assistance has your school provided in finding a preceptor? Unfortunately, it's not as simple as finding a nurse who says yes. Your school will need to work with the hospital and establish an affiliation agreement... and it is highly likely that unless you are already an employee, the hospital isn't going to be willing to do that. Clinical sites are at a premium, and hospitals are going to go with local schools primarily. Your school needs to have resources available to help you.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply—I really appreciate your insight! Just to clarify, Indiana State University actually has a system in place for handling clinical agreements. My role as a student is to find potential facilities and provide their details, but the university steps in from there to establish the necessary agreements.
I totally get that clinical sites are super in demand, and I know this process can be tricky. That said, I'm hopeful there are amazing RNs out there who would love to mentor and help shape the next generation of nurses (fingers crossed!). If you have any tips or tricks for reaching out to preceptors or navigating this process, I'm all ears! Thanks again for taking the time to share your perspective—I really appreciate it!

Hi! I am currently in a distance learning LPN to BSN program at Indiana State University. I reside in Houston, Texas and I am having difficulty finding a preceptor. Has to be Med Surg / Acute Care RN Preceptor.
Anyone know of an RN in Med Surg at Memorial Hermann or any Acute care setting?
Thank you for your help in advance!
