Med Question

Specializes in HCA, Physch, WC, Management.

I jotted down a med off my clinical facility's MAR for my pt for next week. It was handwritten (in cursive no less) and what I wrote down was "Leuothryoxme". Apparently no such drug exists and the alternatives that google.com keeps giving me seem way off base. Any suggestions what this is possibly supposed to be or how I went wrong with this? I don't know if it helps but the dosage is 0.15mg and it was recently upped from 0.125mg last month. It's a p.o. med taken at 0800 only, daily. I appreciate any help with this. I was going to text my instructor but she's got a sick kid and I hate to bother her with something I can hopefully figure out without doing so. Thank you!!!!!

could it be levothyroxine? usual dosage is:

po (adults): hypothyroidism — 50 mcg as a single dose initially; may be increased q 2–3 wk by 25 mcg/day; usual maintenance dose is 75–125 mcg/day (1.5 mcg/kg/day).

0.125mg = 125 mcg

the brand names are

levo-t, levothroid, levoxyl, novothyrox, synthroid, t4, tirosint, unithroid

with synthroid being the most commonly seen.

oh perfect! that seems very reasonable considering my pt has hypothyroidism and there were no meds for that on the mar... except this one. thank you so much!
