Hey, well I have some math homework, i just do not understand this one question. Order for 750 000 units IM q4h hrs. How much would you give QD? Here is the info it gives you:
A vial of Penicillan G potassium contains 5 million units of drug. Pkg instructions specify "sterile H20 for injection."
Directions as follows:
volume Dilutent to be added (ml) 3, 8, 18
Approx. available volume (ml) 5, 10, 20
Approx concentration (Units/ml) 1000 000, 500 000, 250 000
To give a dose of 250 000 units for example: you would add 18ml of sterile H20 injection, shake well to mix evenly, and withdraw 1 ml.
I dont know if they want me to use each constituion or what........ please help

If they are only asking how much would you be giving in a 24 hour period, you only need to calculate the amount that you would give, if every four hours, then six doses per 24 hours, so multiply the one dose x 6.
The question that you are posting is not asking for anything more.

For an IM injection, you always want the smallest amount of diluent, so that you are able to inject the smallest amount of fluid.
Hey thanks soo much for your help
