I have been looking into loan programs thru local hospitals to fund my ADN education and it got me wondering...
If I sign a contract with a local hospital to work x number of years for 4 semesters of tuition, does that mean I automatically have a job offer upon passing the nclex?

ps- if it does, that is probably a great route to go in this economy! ![]()
No....you never get anything for nothing....ever. Even if Granny bakes cookies, she wants you to come and visit (which is good to do anyway:D). :)
It really depends on the contract. I am under scholarship contract and if I am not hired the scholarship is gifted to me, even then I much rather have the job than that forgiveness (esp since my contract is at the best hospital in the Area, and I don't plan on applying anywhere else). Personally I wouldnt sign a contract that didn't forgive the scholarship if I wasn't hired after passing my NCLEX.
As far as the OP having a job in the pocket, well that is also instution dependent. Due in part to what I said above, as well as the fact that the scholarship interview included all the staff and questions that would come with a job interview.
One last thing, remember that we live in a very large country, this is something that a lot of posters here on AN tend to forget. Just because your region is under a certain pressure doesn't mean that pressure is uniform across the Nation. This is especially troubling when someone is being a Debbie downer. Alot of new, or uniformed users believe exactly what is posted in here, so please for the sake of their hope be your own editor.

I'm currently in this type of agreement with my local hospital. I have to work for a month for every month they paid for my tuition and fees. When I graduated high school in 2008 that was the last time they offered these types of scholarships to students because I believe they were going through some financial problems. I'm very blessed to have this opportunity and I was going to pay back all the money or half but then I realized that I might as well work it off instead of paying back all that money.
In the contract it says I must work full time once I pass my NCLEX. After reading some of the posts it has me thinking ... I never thought about the possibility of them not having a position for me once I graduate. I always assumed that I would get a job even if it wasn't in the department that I wanted to be in. It's a pretty small hospital so I could definitely see it being a problem where they couldn't hire me because there is not enough space, but I have never thought about that possibility. In the contract it says nothing about if they can't find me a job whether they would cancel the loan or if I would have to pay it back. I would be pretty upset if I had to pay all that money back just because they couldn't find me a job or didn't want to hire me. I think that is kind of absurd if you ask me. I will definitely check and get these questions answered so I can have a better understanding of what their policy is.
