Ugh....in the middle of budget talks. I'm being told for a building my size I should only need 1.5 FTEs for MDS.One unit has 27 beds and averages 90 admits and discharges a month. The other units are long term 112 beds.I'm think I need my 2 full time MDS people. Any comments from all y'all who do them?

1.5 for a building of your size?

My building has 120 beds, we have 2 FT & we can't keep up...

We need at least 3 just to keep our heads above water...

We could use 1 FT just to do D/C assessments.

Personally, I think you need a minimum of 3 FT & possibly more.

I know of a building with a census of 60 Medicare & they have 4.

If management insists on only 1.5, they will start seeing late/missing assessments=Money lost.

Yep, that's what I keep saying. So far I've been listened to.

Thanks for your response.

You would need at least 2 to 3 people for that many residents. We have 2 nurses working on MDS for 30 people, and we can't keep up with them, in addition to working the floor. One RAI takes over an hour to properly complete.
