MDBON Questions-PLEASE HELP!

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hello, allnurses!

I will be finishing my ABSN program Feb 20th, 2015 in North Carolina. I will be moving to Maryland that same weekend. I have accepted a position at Hopkins and scheduled my orientation for May 4th, 2015. I really need help organizing my thoughts/to-do list for licensure.

  • What does the school need to send/give me that I will need to give the MDBON (to verify my education/release)?
  • Do I need to stick around for awhile or return to NC to gather these documents? How does this TRADITIONALLY work (please, no special cases- i.e., does the MDBON need transcripts? Some sort of stamp? Electronic verification?)
  • Can someone explain or link to an explanation of the series of events with the MDBON and Pearson?

It seems that it is best to go to the MDBON in person to submit documents and obtain fingerprinting, etc. True? Will it be okay that I go the Monday after my last final or do I need to go once the school releases us?

I assume this will be a good time of year as far as rcv'g a timely ATT and am hoping that I have chosen the proper date for orientation.

Any and ALL input is so appreciated and I thank you!

Maryland Board of Nursing - Requirements For Licensue by Endorsement

Do you already have a license in NC? If so, you shouldn't have to do anything as NC is a compact state so you can work in MD with your NC license.

No, I will graduate an ABSN program February 20. I just need to know what they need for residence and education verficiation.

As far going to MDBON to submit documents, they are going to want transcripts sent directly from your school so I would just wait.

I'm assuming you plan on taking your NCLEX in MD so you will need to go to NCLEX-RN Application Instructions For Graduates Of Schools Within The United States.

Yes, thank you. I have the entire application packet from MDBON that was mailed to me so I have the forms and requirements. Trying to get an idea of the timeline.

That's what I wanted to know (that they want transcripts sent directly from school). How soon after graduation did you send you transcripts? I believe my school has 30 days from our last exam to post our final grades so I was going to wait until day...31, ha.

Thanks for your help!

Another question, how long does the background check usually take or how long did it take for you? (I will be living in Maryland by February 23rd and need to take NCLEX by April 10th)

My school submitted all these documents on my behalf so I'm not quite sure. We were just responsible for completing the forms, attaching a picture, and a check. I know for sure though that you shouldn't send your transcripts until your final grades and degree posts. Then you have to wait for notification from ATT that you can schedule your NCLEX. I would say it took about a month maybe. I graduated May 20th and I took my NCLEX in July. I think the earlest date to take the test was at the end of June.

Go ahead and make contact with the board the phone lines are backed up so go to "apply for initial licensure" and you'll see an e mail address and send an e mail. The application packet took 3-4 weeks for me to get... Resulting in me having to pursue licensure through my home state and then endorsement. It is difficult because Maryland is a compound state. And they do want proof of residency (at least the application says) if you can get a person on the phone it may be different. But if so you need to get your lease set up so you can list that. Your school has to send transcripts but again you need contact with a person before you know what else. I never got that far cause I didn't want to be delayed in taking boards. Good luck
