I am actually in a similar situation as well. Although I am a military spouse, starting grad school at UMD and licensed in a compact state. I have been trying to get an answer from MD BON but haven't been able to get in touch with them. Every other state we have moved to I have maintained my license and did not get a license in those states since we maintain NH as our home of record and vote, register cars, hold drivers licenses there, etc. I have to work more on getting an answer to make sure it is the same here in Maryland. Are you licensed in a compact state? What are you going to grad school for?

When I applied I asked if I had to have a maryland license since I am military. I was told I had to have one by the admissions department. Ill call again tmrw and double check though.
I find that strange. It's not difficult for you to prove your licensure in another state. Sounds like MD just digging for a little more money out of your pockets...

I went today to the MD BON (took so long and in really hole in the wall place). The receptionist wasn't friendly to begin with. She told me they no longer accept walk-in for endorsement and had to fill online. I luckily had my fingerprints done prior. So came back to my place and filled online. It was a lot easier than driving down there. Crossing my fingers to have it approved as soon as possible.

Do you need it for school? I was also stationed in MD and knew plenty of folks in school. Especially for a military RN, having a license in a particular state isn't required as long as the license is active.
Get in touch with your education office. Most every base has one and they should be able to tell you more about this.
