Any one else attending MCC in Waco TX?
we had to wear white pants at my last school...the worst thing in clinicals is that EVERYTHING gets on them...and once when rolling a pt, his leg wound was bleeding (i didnt know at the time) so i had blood all over my white, brand new pants!! and the school actually had to pass out a memo that everyone needed to wear white undercloths (DUH)
needless to say, i am happy with blue!!
That's where I got my ADN in 2002--day program. I don't really know the evening program profs. I'm curious if the instructors are still there.
These are the list of 1523/1462 Faculty that we have
Sharon Allen
Ginger Dossman
Nena Gordon
Cynthia McAdams
Angela Tibbitt
Do any of these people sound familiar and if they do...how were they as instructors or faculty...nice and helpful or something else?
The only one I'm familiar with is Cynthia McAdams. Unfortunately there are 2 instructors I don't have much positive to say about and she is one of them. She taught pharm...there was a guy who graduated before me who was a total perfectionist. He made this very detailed table of many many many meds, including side effects, dosages, routes, etc and I happened to get a copy from him. One student apparently did not know this individual and did not get a copy so she complained...I say she because there was only 1 other male in my class and he didn't make it past the 2nd semester. Anywho, the instructor interpreted this as some students had copies of questions and accused some of us of cheating. I'm not a fan of having my integrity questioned and when I met with her she didn't seem to quite get that these "cheat sheets" revealed no questions, just a nice, neat list of meds one might see on a test. She was later shown reality, but never really offerred any kind of apology.
The good news was that she was only part of that 1st semester; hopefully you'll be as fortunate. After that we never had her as a lecturer because there was a different group of instructors each semester.
If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask...
I'm a little confused about some of the topics posted on this board. When you say pharm, is that pharmacology? So, we have two different classes that are part of the first semester nursing program. We have RNSG 1523--Introduction To Professional Nursing (Theory) and RNSG 1462--Nursing Introduction (Clinical)--Now, here is where I am a little confused...is pharmacology a part of 1523? Will I have different topics during 1523 taught by different instructors? They really didn't get into that during Orientation...Is it different from support courses? For instance, A&P was taught by one instructor for both class and lab during the whole semester. Is it not like that in the ADN program? Does any of this make sense?
you will have one instructor (1523) teach you about the nursing basics--some history, nurse pioneers, theories, etc.; one will teach you pharmacology (pharm). Another way to think about it is that you will have units in a class and different instructors teach different units. For example, your 2nd semester will have a labor and delivery unit, a pediatric unit, an endocrinology unit, and a perioperative unit. A different instructor will teach each unit (although 1 instructor might teach 2 of them).
As for clinical, you will have one clinical instructor for the entire semester. You will start in a nursing home, and probably get your feet a bit wet on a medical floor in a hospital towards the end of the semester.
But keep in mind, I did this in 2000-2002, so things coulda changed.
Hi everybody,
I just wanted to know how hard was it to get into the ADN program? How many points should you have before you apply? I have all of my pre-req's completed but I reside in Fort Worth, and I don't have any other licenses except CNA. You don't get any points for CNA so I was just wondering.
Thank you for your time.

Oh yeah!! Royal blue from top to bottom!! Dr. Rena said that we have prior nursing students to thank for that. They got to pick out our current colors and I really like them. I could just imagine white pants. OMGoodness...what if your monthly "friend" was visiting and you had an accident? Not good...not good at all!!
