MCC in person classes

I am really upset with myself, but I am dropping bio 156 and math at rio. I am totally screwing myself but I need to take these kinds of classes in person. Despite an A in both classes I know I will fail the mid-terms. I am going to have re-pay and I have no Idea what kind of penalty there will be for dropping. I already passed the cut-off point for Biology but I am can still drop Math. Will I never be able to get financial aid again?

But.. what I really want to know is about the in-person classes through maricopa community colleges. I am looking at taking Bio 181 through Mesa community college and the class is from like January to May. Bio 156 through rio is only 12 weeks.. are in-person classes longer? What about the summer 1 and 2? Are those accelerated?

Also, what is the typical work load taking an in-person class. For anyone that has taken a biology class, aside from going to class during the week.. how much homework do you do? Do the biology classes have a lot of essays?

Okay, I'll stop my novel here. I hate myself for doing this, but I need a teacher.. apparently.. I'll take anything but math and science online.

Have you tried using the tutors at RIO? They are usually very good and helpful 1:1. I've taken many classes at MCC and RIO, always depends on the instructor no matter which way you opt for. Good Luck!

I don't think tutors would help..At least not tutors over the internet. It would probably be better if I had an in-person tutor.. but I am far from the Rio Salado office.

At any rate, after that post I felt really bad about myself.. so I picked up my Bio book and started studying. My mid-term is this week and I have to get a 60% to pass.. that's a D-. If I can still pass the class with a D- then I might as well give it a shot. It may be easier then what I think.

I am definitely still dropping math and taking it in-person. Or, I am going to take it through Rio with an easier class like English.

Absolutely you should try and finish! No sense in dropping now. Even f you don't pass, you can retake it somewhere else and replace that grade. I know exactly where you are coming from....I have signed up for math and Bio at Phoenix college and Im so afraid I will be in the same boat. Good luck and stick with it. Let us know how you do on your finals!

I took the same class. If I can do it, so can you......believe me. The tests are not that difficult. Study your test and especially your essays. They are identical on the mid-term and final. The instructors will give you liberty on the test because you don't have your book in front of you. When I was doing the essays I would say that there is "something" that happens at this point but I just can't remember the name. Spelling is not an issue either on your midterms. Try to relax. You can answer a question and go back and change it. You have plenty of time. You have an A, so did I going in. I got a 57 on midterm and 63 on final. This gave me a B for the final. Try not to stress it. Focus on you essays and quizes and labs. Thats all you need to pass this class and others. The essays questions are at random except for the most obvious like diffusion......you will be asked that. Or at least they have always asked that. Don't drop at this point. You sound like you are on target. THe online classes can be overwhelming until you get into the flow of it but it ends up being such a time saver. Hang in there!
