Mayo Summer III 2013

Just thought I'd start a topic for this since I haven't seen one yet for this upcoming summer.

I finished applying a few weeks ago and now I'm starting to work on some other internship/externship apps. I hopeful I get accepted but also being realistic and keeping my options open.

*SIGH i got the e-mail. it's a no for me =(

It is a "no" for me also. This program must be extremely competitive... I have a 3.95 accumulative GPA...4.0 nursing GPA. I have two years experience as a tech on a medical surgical telemetry floor, am a pathophysiology tutor and I am my graduating classes student nurse representative... Very sad, but God must have something else in mind.

Just recieved the "No" email. My roomate also applied but has not recieved an email yet, so crossing my fingers for her! I had a 3.74GPA but I had a "C" in my Med Surg from last semester. I am a nurse extern in an intensive care unit (so I was hoping that would help :o) ) And I am the editor for our student nursing organization. My reference was a member of the Mayo Summer III program and wrote me a KILLER reference letter. I'm not entirely sure how they base their selections, but it seems like GPA is huge. When my professor got into the Mayo Summer III program (maybe 3 years ago) he had a near 4.0 (Idk if being male improves your chances?), but he wasn't in any organizations and he hadn't had an internship/externship yet. So I'm not sure how much emphesis they have on experience... BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE!

I got denied too, oh well now we can make different plans I guess.. Yea it makes me wonder what they look for!!

I got in!! But...I'm not sure how. :sorry: My GPA was a 3.79, I have no patient care experience, no volunteer experience besides the Ronald McDonald house which was before college even started, and am not in any leadership positions at school or any clubs. I'm guessing they put a lot of emphasis on the essays... The only thing I had going for me was a semi-decent GPA, two nursing scholarships, and good essays. I've worked since my freshman year of high school but they were all food related jobs. I really wonder what they look for!

But I'm sorry you guys didn't make it! You guys are probably much more deserving than I was!

Wow! That's amazing! Please dont put yourself down and ask why you got in just to make others feel better! Lol you got in and you deserve it!! Great job! I would like to know about your experience!

I did! I actually did my clinical experience at the Mayo Clinic so my clinical instructor worked there. But thank you! :D You're too sweet!
