It will get better as you are in it longer. But the anxiety will not completely go away in six months or even two years because there will be things you haven't seen or done for a long time yet and a Registered Nurse *IS* a huge responsibility professionally and legally.

So

What do you WANT to do? You're young. The world's your oyster and you have time. If you could leave aside the stress and anxiety you feel as a newer nurse and envision yourself in five years what would you be doing? Would it be working as a more confident RN in nursing environment? Or would you rather be doing something else. Only you can answer this honestly. Forty comes fast. And then it truly may be too late. if you're really certain this isn't your bag now is the time to do it. Yet if you know it IS your passion and you just have the jitters then hang in there.

Specializes in ICU.

Thanks to everyone who replied.. I just got a new job in ICU two weeks ago.. It's indeed a wonderful opportunity.. I'm exploring on this field of nursing for now.. Hopefully, everything works out.. I'm just so scared though.. I feel like I need to go back to school.. I feel so incompetent... But for now, I'm giving myself a chance to learn :)) we'll see... Sigh...

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

I LOATHED LTC for various reasons, not the least the poor care residents got. Get out. There are other areas of nursing u will probly enjoy, like psych, med/surg, OT. Do agency work to pick up shifts.
