Maybe Im jumping the gun but.....

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have recently applied to a school, in which, I did pretty good on the teas and had to take the SLE which I passed as well. I also have a degree and in this program you get more points for having a degree and even more points because I have more than 6 months medical experience. When I turned in my application the counselor gave me the paperwork for my drug screen and background check. Normally, I thought they do this after they send out acceptance letters right? Are they giving me mine early because they think I have a good shot at getting in?? :yeah: I hope so. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but my mom, who is a nurse believes this too. Tell me what you think?? Has anyone been given the paper work for a drug screen and background check before being accepted?? I also have to pay 65$ so I hope this is good news.

Thanks everyone:nurse:

You might be jumping the gun, they may hand the paperwork out to everyone. My school has the information available through their website so the day you get accepted you can follow through with your drug screen/background check, getting liability ins, getting BLS certification, etc, and even buying the uniform. This information is available to everyone all the time. I wouldn't waste my money on a drug screen/background check until I knew that I got in.

Good luck to you, and I am sure you will get in.

That is true, but my couselor gave the papers to me, as there is no website for this school and told me I should do it right away thats why I am wondering why he would have me pay the money without getting accepted for sure. IDK but thats for answering :-)

Interesting that he told you to do it right away, I see what you mean. I would ask because that would be a complete waste of money for all the students who were merely hopefuls, you know what I mean? Maybe get a second opinion from another person at the school. Have you spoken with anybody else who has also applied to your school?

We have to turn in those kinds of things with our application at my school. To apply you have to have CPR training, updated Vaxes including Hep B and Tb skin test, background and some other thing done. But they accept pretty much everyone, too.

Specializes in Alzheimers and geriatric patients.

At my school you don't have to the background check until you get in.

I would ask another applicant if they also were told to get the background work done, as this might just weed out potiential canidates. I mean at my school you've already been accepted, but if you fail the drug screen or the background check you get kicked out of the program but my school doesn't do alternates, so they basically wasted a spot that another student could have had. I wish you had to do it beforehand that way those people could be taken out of the running.

However, you seem like your scores are good and that you'll have a good number of points so even if they give it to everyone, maybe he told you to do it immediatly to ensure your spot?

Good luck, i really hope you got in! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks everyone for responding. I got my results back in two days and of course I passed everything. Well negative drug test and nothing negative on my background check. I will know if I am accepted in 2 weeks so I will keep you all posted. Thanks so much.
