Hello, I am in NYC. Math 104 is pre req for Nursing. Besides MATH 104 I have to take ENG101, CHE 121 (I believe) and Psychology. I am sure that each school has different pre reqs. However, If you have grants or extra money, which I do not have, you can apply to the schools that are without waiting list. For me they are the option if I am not accepted to BMCC program If you have any questions please contact me.
i think, perhaps, that what you might be referring to is the old "dose desired divided by dose on hand multiplied by the amount available" formula. i've used that formula for years to calculate iv rates and drug dosages.
i believe that the fractions you use for calculation that you are referring to are things like conversion factors. it is part of a system of solving these medication dosage and iv flow rate problems called dimensional analysis. it involves setting up a series of ratios (fractions) that you multiply together. the trick is to arrange the ratios so that the labels that go with each of the different numbers gets cancelled out from the numerators and denominators so that you are only left with the labels you want. i am listing a couple of web sites for you to get started with. i have many more and have listed most of them at some point or another on the student forums. also check out the "sticky" https://allnurses.com/forums/f198/math-help-links-120539.html for other suggestions and web sites to help you with math.
http://www-isu.indstate.edu/mary/tutorial.htm - from the indiana state university a "basics" page on medication math with explanations on how to do a number of different types of medications problems (including iv problems), conversions and dimensional analysis with links to lots of practice quizzes.
http://www.accd.edu/sac/nursing/math/mathindex2.html - basic tutorial on getting started with pharmacology math. at the bottom of this home page is a drop down box where you link into any of the following subjects: common conversion factors/equivalencies, common abbreviations, ratio and proportion, iv problems, titration problems, and pediatric pharmacology math. http://www.accd.edu/sac/nursing/math/default.html -- the start page of this pharmacology math tutorial presented by the nursing department at the san antonio college. by clicking on the "go figure" button you can access quizzes on basic med calculations, iv, pediatric and ob med calculations. the quizzes all have answers. follow the directions.

hello all...I just want to say hello to all of you and to say that I started my first pre req for nursing. It is MATH 104 or Math for health sciences. So far is going good. I have 95 of 100. For BMCC it is an "A". I am taking the class online and I have to say that I like it a lot. We are learning now hot to read medication labels. I just have question about Calculating the Amount of a Drug Needed to Administer a Particular Dosage. I am little confused about that fraction used for calculation.
If I write example now it will take up too much space sop if somebody knows what I am looking for , please help or also if you know good web site for this subject please post it here.
Thanks
