I feel your pain. I'm pulling a high B in beginning Algebra burning every last brain cell I have.... I hope I can continue to earn a B in Intermediate and then college Algebra. I could learn 3 foreign languages at the same time and still not spend as much time with them as I do with math!
Good luck!
I feel your pain... all I can say is Algebra is EVIL!! :angryfire It has been 20 years since I took any math class and I happened to place into College Algebra!
I was going to drop out of my class after my first exam... I got a 42! I started to cry! There was no way I was going to pass this class and I was going to have to kiss my GPA goodbye.
I could not even drop the class because I have to take 6 classes next spring to get into NS. However, we are able to take the exams twice and I did get higher the second time around. As I looked at the whole picture and the potential extra credit points, I figured I *might* be able to do it.
I did my final this past weekend.... I got a 92 and an overall A in the class - by 7/10th of a percent!! I got my grade and ran around the house screaming, I was so happy! After that, I teared up because it was finally over. This was the hardest class I have ever taken by far and I hated every minute.
Great comeback ncbeachmommy! I keep telling my friends - when the HECK is an asymptote ever going to save my life!?!?
All I can say is Thank God it's over!
I hate to be the bubble buster here...but when you get into nursing school, you will need to know proportion ratios to solve dosage calculation problems. So, solving for X will not go away. While it is obvious that content of stats and algebra aren't used on the floor, taking those courses sharpens your critical thinking skills; skills that are imperative for nursing.
The math for nursing is so easy. The only math you will ever really need for dosage calculations is very basic elementary algebra, and that is basically fractions and multiplications in the form of dimensional analysis.
K,H,D,U,D,C,M can be used without doing math at all and is much quicker when converting btwn metric units, because all you need to do is move the decimal from right to left to get the required metric equivalent.

I am almost finished with my Math 70 course.... I am hoping to pull a C out of it....That's all I need! Solving Quadratic Equations is going to be the death of me! I will need a nurse!....and speaking of which....I have not met a nurse yet that has needed to use Quadratic Equations...... Argh! Just venting!
