Math Help plz!

This is my math problem:

Order: Mandoll 1 gm IVPB every 8 hrs

Available-Mandol 1 gm 100 ML NS to be infused in 30 min. Tubing gtt factor: 10 gtt/ml. Cal. rate for IV pump and gravity.

My ? is which of the times do i use the 8hrs or the 30 min? I did both and the 8hrs seems to make more sense than the 30 min. though it sounds like the doc. wants it to be infused now.

the 8 hr prob. is this: 100mL/8= 12.5 mL or 100 mL/30= 3.3 mL

If I'm reading it right, the med. is to be given every 8hrs over a 30min interval.

You use both times. Think of it this way: You order your lover to give you a massage every 8 hours. They ask you "How long is the massage to be" and you answer "30 minutes."

So are you getting an 8 hour massage or a 30 minute massage every 8 hours?

The order is give 1 g every 8 hours. (There's one time.)

The directions for administratin say to infuse the med in 30 minutes. (There's the other one.)

So the rate for the pump is 100 ml/30min = 200 ml/h

The gravity is 10gtt/ml x 200ml/h x 1h/60min = 33gtt/min. Or you can use the drop factor contant of 6 to get 200/6= 33 gtt/min.

Great visual 2ndyearstudent ! I will never forget this.
