master's in diabetic foot care or wound management

Published

hello,

I'm a Saudi nurse, on a scholarship and I would like to proceed with my education in wound management or diabetic foot care "master's degree".

I've been searching for it,unfortunately, I haven't got any result but the online mean of study programs.

the problem is that the Saudi Health Commission does not admit or authorize the distance learning programs.

In the end, I would like to inquire if you know any university in US,Canada,UK, or any country offer master's in diabetic foot care or wound management as full time- face to face learning, I would be so grateful ?!

Thank you very much,

A pleasant day

I think you haven't received any answers as there are no programs like this in the US.

You can get an MSN (Masters in the Science of Nursing) but the concentration would be management, leadership, some type of NP, etc..

I know of no programs where the focus is purely wound care or foot care.

I've never heard of a graduate nursing degree with such a specific focus -- those kind of programs are usually certificate programs.

Specializes in nursing education.

I think it's great that you are interested in this. Feet and wounds are some of the most disrespected things in health care! Also, Saudi's have really high rates of T2DM so this is something very needed.

What IS out there is, you could pursue certification as a diabetes educator through http://www.ncbde.org/ the NCBDE. There is a higher level certification too for CNS's and other master's prepared nurses.

There is also a WOCN certification (for wound, ostomy, and continence nurses) and I've always thought that would be a very satisfying career choice, but the DM route sounds more like what you are looking for.

I guess I would recommend, doing FNP, CNS, or adult NP and "specializing" in diabetes, which is the way I'm going. There is plenty of it out there.

Good luck!
