  1. How many *OTHER* nursing programs did you apply to?

Good evening!

I have peeked through these boards for a few years, and since I finally sent in my application to the SSU BSN nursing program yesterday (spring 2015), I thought that I would make a profile name and start a thread. I am more nervous about going to a university than the nursing classes, if you could imagine! Having some people to talk to before I get there with similar interests may help my nervousness. I am a perpetual community college student, so I have ZERO experience with the big schools--even though it is a small-big school :)

Some of the things I would love to hear about are: family/career/education backgrounds and how you became interested in this nursing program (or nursing in general); what your end ideal dream/goal is as of right now; if you have been admitted yet (!); anyone that has experience with this specific program at this school, or what you have heard; if you live in the area already, or when you are moving out; and anything else really. I know the deadline is still a ways away (November 1st, I believe) so I might be alone here for a bit, but answer anytime because I probably won't have another thread until I am about to graduate, and will continuously check back.

I will answer these questions myself soon, just wanted to get it out there.

Pleasure to meet you!! :x3:

Hi again Duxfeminafacti! Sorry that I didn't see this forever ago... Obviously that semester has ended. Hopefully, you are now progressing into Fundamentals! I don't think that we are allowed to say professor's names, but I have class on Thursday morning, and clinical on Tuesday evening. Maybe I will see you there???

Heyy. I am also willing to start nursing in Salem State this fall 2016 and hoping I'm prepared.

Good luck purplemim! The faculty will take care of you, and there's a vibrant student nurses association for anything else you need when you get here. Take it easy. As long as you put in the work, you should not fail!

Okay thank you. My parents think because Salem State is not an ivy leagues or any popular school it's not good. I hope it's as good as I think or better.

Purplemim,

I really can't compare the nursing program at SSU to anywhere else because it is the only one I have participated in. Maybe it is not as good.. Maybe it is better.. It seems to be proven successful, though, because girls are graduating and becoming RNs. However, since you don't even need the degree to become an RN, the choice of university is completely personal--you could just attend a local community college, take the licensing exam, and then you are exactly the same as any other RN with no experience.

That being said, ivy league schools are valued for their networking and connections. If your parents are willing to pay for it, I would definitely go to one of those. It might help you get a job when you are just one new graduate RN in a sea of new graduate RNs. If they are not helping you to pay for school, I'd tell them to mind their own business!

If you are not sure which school you'd like to go to, I would tour a few, and learn whatever you can about those particular programs. There are many ways to skin a cat (such a gross expression, if you ask me, but there it is). Good luck to your future!
