Out of state nurse applying to jobs in Baltimore

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

This is my first time applying to jobs outside of the state I live in. I'm curious how the interview process would work. Is a phone or video interview enough or will I need to fly to Maryland for an interview? Also, will the hospital cover plane tickets?

Thanks for your help!

You don't say what position you're applying for. The hospital may pay to fly you to Baltimore for an interview for a management position, but I've never heard of it happening for a bedside position. It is likely you'll have a phone or video interview (or two or three). If they like you, they may offer you a job or they may invite you to Baltimore for an in-person interview. You'd be flying at your own expense.

Try to schedule interviews with all the employers you're considering in a bunch, allowing a full day for each. (It may not take that long, but I've been surprised in the past by employers who want me to meet some other stakeholder or, having failed to mention shadowing, suddenly suggest it now.) You can also use the trip to check on the city and get an idea of neighborhoods where you might like to live (or avoid).

I lived south of the city, toward Annapolis, but many of my colleagues love the Patterson Park area.
