Maryland Endorsement with VA License

Hello! I am reaching out because I have a VA multistate compact designation license that allows me to practice in Maryland. I live in VA and recently got a job in Maryland that I will be starting soon. The company wants me to get an endorsement for Maryland and I am not sure what they means or why it is necessary. Or if this is even possible.

I worked in Maryland for over a year at another hospital from 2023-2024 and just used my VA license. I lived in VA while working in MD so I'm not sure what the purpose of an endorsement is when I can practice in MD already with no restrictions.

My multistate Virginia nurse license allows me to practice in all compact states/territories (Maryland) with one license issued by the home state (Virginia in this case). Due to this, I do not believe I will be allowed to apply for endorsement since my Virginia license already works in Maryland and allows me to practice without any restrictions. Can you explain why they would want me to get a MD endorsement?

As long as your legal residence is still in Virginia, you can work as an RN in Maryland with a Virginia compact license. I suggest you forward information from the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards Of Nursing)   www.NCSBN.org   to your new employer as all the answers to their questions will be on this website.   Many employers are not yet up to date with the "NLC" rules.
