Maricopa County Wait list

Published

Hello!

I am writing a paper on the Maricopa county wait list (currently a 4-5 semester wait). My assignment is to identify a problem and find a solution. For me personally the wait list is too long but are there students out there who actually like the wait list? If so, why?

I don't know anyone who likes that wait list. From what I've seen there are people with time stamps from 2 years ago just getting in. It's crazy.

That is what I assumed too! However, I have read a couple articles stating that students like it because it gives them time to plan financially and take their remaining courses. I say, If youre not ready, don't apply. I dunno...I guess im just looking for people who like the list for some reason. Anyone see any advantages to the lsit?

The wait list is actually currently projected at over 3 years for people just applying. When I start in jan, I will have waited 2.5 year from application to start. The wait is ridiculous, but there are competitive entry options for those who don't want to wait. It's nice to have the wait list as an option for those who may not have the best GPA for whatever reason. But it still insanely long. Since graduation rates are in the 70-80 percentile, they should up the application requirements. This would make for a shorter list and weed out those who may my do as well. Idont know anyone who likes the wait list. It does give time to complete co Reqs and any BSN pre Reqs, but one could just take those first then apply for the following semester if mccdnp had a competitive app process.

There are stories on this board all the time of people that have applied to nursing school 2-3+ times and have gotten denied -- this causes them a great deal of angst and frustration.

I see the positive in a 2-3 year wait list IF it is a fact that once you apply you know for a fact that you will be admitted into the nursing program but simply have to wait it out. Beats those that apply year after year and still don't know if or when they will be admitted.

When I start in Jan I will have been on the list for 2.5 years. For people just applying, the waitlist is now about 4 years not semesters. They are making more room for the Concurrent Enrollment students which makes the waitlist longer for people who are not going through that program. I think the only good thing for me was that I could get some financial things ready before I start. But the worst thing I think about the waitlist, just as mrsboots87 said, is that everyone gets into this program as long as pre-reqs are done and you apply and a lot of people dont even finish block 1. From what I heard its because some people fail but for mostly they just don't like it. I know of a few people that didn't finish because after block 1 they decided it was not for them. I think Maricopa should have a few more requirements to be admitted to the program which will help cut down on the waitlist. Also another thing that could help cut down is if they have start dates in the Summer. I think now they only have Fall and Spring start dates but if they added the Summer semester start date I think it would help minimize the wait.
