Maricopa Community College Questions!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I am currently a student at Scottsdale community college and I am waiting to get into the nursing program. I have a few questions:

1. Does the Scottsdale communty college accelerated program require you to be a SHC employee?

2. How difficult are the programs once you are in them? Is the accelerated program more difficult than the traditional?

3. How long has it taken to get into the programs? I applied Oct. 22, 2007 (the first day they were accepting apps) and got that time stamp. Do i have any chance of getting in in January?

Thanks SOOOOO much for anyone who can help me!:loveya: I can't tell you how frusterated i am!:sniff:

1. I have no idea as I didn't apply with scottsdale.

2. I think this can vary between the different colleges. Time wise there are good and bad things to both. I know with traditional you have that long summer break, which looks good until you get into it and realize that in 4 months you forgot things. Accelerated doesn't give you much time between semesters either so there doesn't seem to be as much downtime as traditional.

3. It took me a year. I applied in the fall 2006 and was accepted for the spring 2008 semester. I have heard the current wait is anywhere from 1 - 1.5 years right now.

Good luck :)

I know the answer to two of your three questions.

1. For Spring 2008 all 50 spots in the SCC accelerated program are going to SHC employees....but there are no slots in the SCC traditional program reserved for SHC employees this time.

2. The traditional and accelerated programs are exactly the same with the exception of the summer break. (accelerated students only get two weeks.)

3. I'm not sure if you will be in for Spring, but they do the placements in 4 days!! :yeah:YAY! (I'm on the wait list too.)

I would have started a new thread but couldn't see how to do it.

I'm a mature adult with a bachelors in Marketing and masters in Education but I'd like to become an RN. I live in Sun City West (near Phoenix) and am trying to decide between applying to the Maricopa Community Colleges or to Apollo or Pima. Time is crucial at my age so I'd like to get started asap. I have all the prereqs except the Anatomy/Physiology.

Any suggestions on which schools to apply to (and why) would be greatly appreciated. I would consider driving to the East Valley or getting a job at a hospital (though I'm not sure what I'd qualify for) if that would help.

Thanks so much for any advice.

MCC programs have a very long wait where as there are some other programs for second degree students that are accelerated that you may want to look into even ASU, Chamberlain College of Nursing. Pima and Apollo are in the same price range as ASU and Chamberlain and I'd say its all a matter of time over money. If you have the money then the faster route it not the MCC programs, unless you happen to currently work at Boswell in Sun City... Look at Chamberlain its not too far from your area, great people, and they do not have pre-reqs because they are part of the program, but since you already have a degree you may already have a lot of the other pre and co reqs completed, it is an accelerated 3 year BSN program. Who knows you could have it completed in less time.
