Maricopa Comm College CEP Fall 2017 Uni/Spring 2018 CC Applicants

Published

HI -

Sorry if this is a repeat topic, but hoping to "meet" other applicants hoping to start their online university classes in Fall 2017 and CC in-person nursing blocks in Spring 2018.

Hi again Sayla -

There are loads of online (free) websites with tests and revision for HESI. Plus I suggest getting the HESI book (I forget the name, but I can find it if you need me to)...it runs at about $30 new. It's available online or most likely the CC bookstores carry it. There are also some APs you can download onto your phone. Some cost $10 or so but they are worth it if it helps you!

On the day of the test, allow yourself the full allotted time. I think you get at least 3 hours, it might even be 4 or more, I forget. But, anyway - find out what it is, and arrive in plenty of time to sort our paperwork, pay, and get settled. Plus make sure you are hydrated and not hungry! And DON'T RUSH. Take your time and think carefully rather than blast thru the answers!!

Best of luck - I know how stressful it is!

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes I am going through such a tough time. Could you please let me know about the book? I will definitely spend some money to take better preparation for hessi. I have already made an appointment in January to retake the hesi. Thanks again.

I agree with everything union-Jack said! I used the book to study vocab and free Quizlet study options like this HESI A2 Vocabulary study Flashcards | Quizlet but be sure to check the book first. I wrote down the words and definitions so many times because that helps me remember! I also got to the testing site about 45 minutes early and I studied vocab right before taking the test! Goodluck :) you got this

Thank you Kaylynn....thank you for your advice. Good luck to you too for block 1.

The book is called "HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review" edition 4 by Elsevier. It includes access to online practice exams too.

I'm grateful we live in Maricopa county! In other areas and states, their HESI includes all the sciences too!!!

Kaylynn - how are your online classes going??

Yes it's good that we don't have to take science portion in hesi. Thank you for your support.

I have third edition of that book...should I buy the 4th edition?

I would suggest the 4th edition. Try looking on Craigslist or someplace like that to save $$. I would have given you mine for free if I still had it, but I already gave it away, sorry!

So nice of you...thank you for being so kind.

No problem i am going to buy the 4th edition hesi book.

Has everyone had - or soon to have - their orientation meeting at their Community College yet?

PVCC had a very short orientation which just went over the paperwork we need to submit and how to submit it. We have a more formal, all-day orientation about a week before class begins. 62 days and counting!!!

Hey Everyone -

I wanted to ask what you have all done about uniforms? Am I right in thinking we can purchase any scrub set as long as it is Caribbean blue in color and has the logo embroidered on? When I went to the store they suggest in Tempe, I didn't care for the basic Maricopa scrubs so I chose a different brand.

What are you all doing?

Also - does anyone know what actually comes in the lab kit? I purchased mine a while ago, and it will be delivered directly to the school. I'm just interested in what I actually bought! I am assuming gloves, needles, stethoscope etc??

Apple-Core, you are correct, you can purchase scrubs wherever you choose, as long as they are the proper shade of Caribbean Blue with the embroidered logo. I elected to stick with the cheap ones from Apparel Pro since we will only be using them for 4 semesters. The pants are not the most pleasant, so I may end up buying different ones later.

As far as the "nursing tote", as it was called at my school. I picked up my tote yesterday. It was a clear plastic bag filled with supplies. Most were individually sealed so I have not opened them It appears to be a foley kit, syringes, fake medications, a bag of IV fluid and IV lines and things like that. There is no stethoscope, pen light, bandage scissors....you will absolutely need to purchase those on your own.
