HELLO! I need some help, I am not sure what to do. I have finished most of my pre-reqs and co-reqs for nursing. I plan on taking the HESI and applying to the MCC nursing program this summer. I have taken ENG 101&102, CHM 130 & LAB, MAT 142, PSY 101, BIO 201 And I"m currently taking BIO 202, SOC 101, and MAT 206 (Stats). I am confused as to which if I should do the Concurrent enrollment program with ASU or the RN to BSN program. If I decide to take the CEP I will most likely not enter the program until fall of 2016, which then takes about 7 semesters to complete. That just seems so long :/ If i take that route I would have to take pathophysiology (HCR 240) this summer. If I take the RN to BSN route it would be better for me to take BIO 205 this summer. Either way I was wondering how long it takes to enter the Maricopa community college nursing program if I have most of my pre-reqs done, would that influence the time of my wait at all? I'm just debating which route would be faster? I feel like my college years are turning into a never ending cycle

I'm confused as to what your asking, I know that you need Bio 205 either way. You are more likely to get into the program faster if you go the CEP rout.

The 7 "semesters" for the CEP include summer sessions as well just FYI. That may help you make a better decision to calculate that in. A typical RN-BSN will take about 18 months. If you are not on the wait list yet calculate a wait of 2 semesters, then 4 semesters of nursing school, then 18 months of the BSN. Or another option of you are looking at NAU is you can start your BSN in block 3 Or 4 of nursing school and get a head start that way.
Im doing the CEP so I can just get it done at once and not have to worry about having to go back for my BSN.

Either way, you will need BIO 205. It doesnt have to be completed before applying at MCC, but I would suggest having it completed before starting the program because the program will be intense. I would also suggest you sit down with a nursing adviser about your classes and your plan. You will get the better advice there and get steered in the right direction. For either the CEP or RN-BSN, you still have quite a few classes to take. HCR 240 is one of quite a few. You cant apply to CEP until you have the additional classes either completed or almost completed. After you get your AAS nursing, you cant apply for an RN-BSN program until you have completed the same additional pre reqs as required for the CEP programs. As you stand, you can apply for admission to the traditional cohorts only.
From NAUs RN-BSN page (same/similar requirements for entrance to all of them):
So you would still need BIO 205, PSY 240, NUT 2something, and HCR 240 and an additional humanities course. Then to actually graduate with a BSN, you still have to meat the liberal arts and diversity/awareness requirements. I dont know if you have taken the additional liberal arts classes or not, but if you have only taken what is listed, then you have a ways to go. I would suggest getting an AGEC along the way. Unless you dont need the awareness areas taken for the CEP. That I don't know. But again, this is why you need to sit down with a nursing advisor and have them go over your options.
For example, my path: I applied for the nursing program when the wait was still 2-3 years. Yuck. I completed all the co reqs for the program as well as the pre reqs for RN-BSN through NAU. I am in block 3 and just accepted to NAU RN-BSN program to start in the fall alongside my block 4. I also am set to "graduate" with my AGEC-A this summer. I am doing that because it satisfies the liberal arts and awareness requirement for the BSN degree through NAU. I would have had to take 4 additional classes through NAU prior to graduation otherwise. I will then graduate with my AAS Nursing in the fall. I will then only have 2 semesters left for my BSN to graduate with that Fall 2016.
I have almost 60 credits of CC coursework completed in order to do this.
My path is not the only one, and you may take a different route. I am not trying to discourage you. Just prepare you so you are aware that you still have more classes to take before you can consider the only 2 options you listed above. And for the CEP program, you finish with your BSN 1 semester after you complete your ASN because you take summer courses in that 7 semesters. So its only 2.5 years tp completion. For your RN-BSN, even if you start NAU in block 3, youre looking at about 3 years from start, unless you go full time NAU and full time CC program, but I wouldnt suggest that. GL in whichever way you end up taking to get to your RN, just please see someone who can lay this all out for you. I didnt see an adviser for my first 3 semesters and ended up taking 2 unecessary classes because I thought they satisfied the requirements for what I wanted to do.
@ Mrs.Bookworm I was just wondering if my wait to get into the nursing program is in any way influenced by the number of pre-reqs/co-reqs I've taken but thank you for your answer, I think I am sticking to what was initially my first choice which is the CEP route :)@AZBlueBell Thank you so much for your answer, the adviser I met with was not helpful at all, a little rude too to be honest and I felt stupid for asking questions because he starred at his computer the whole time and was not helpful at all, and he is supposed to be a nursing adviser! I will be making another appointment with a different adviser and I plan on sticking to the CEP as well. Through which school are you doing the CEP with if i may ask ? @mrsboots87 I asked my advisor and I plan on doing the CEP with ASU and I was informed that PSY 240 and NUTRITION were not required prior to applying to the program, I may be wrong but I will double check with my appointment with my next adviser. You are not discouraging me at all, I really appreciate all your help and I know I will meet up with a different adviser because I just had a bad experience with the one I just recently met up with, again thank you so much for your answer :)
I'm going through Estrella because its closest to me and will work better for my family and kid schedules trying to get them to school and then myself as well as coordinating pickup for them.
Oh well good luck to you , are you already starting the CEP this fall ?
No I am applying in the June session for the spring 2016 entry.
No that doesn't have any influence on your wait it only comes down the you date stamp you get once you apply for the maricopa waiting pool. That is only for the ADN, now your date stamp doesn't have any inffluemce with the CEP as long as you have the pre requs and co requs done and the university accepts you, you will get placed.
ASU does not require nutrition or PSY 240, only HCR 240 and your college math. I am applying to ASU and GCC evening/weekend at the same time Azbluebell is.
