how many uniforms to buy?

Published

I'm starting nursing school this fall and my orientation is in June. We are going to be fitted for uniforms then and order small equipment. My question is: How many uniforms should I have? I would think that I would need more than one but I'm not sure exactly how many.

We had clinicals 2 days/week so I bought two sets of scrubs, but even one set will do if you're willing to wash it immediately after clinicals. MyNursingUniforms.com has the best deals on Dickies black label, which are very light and comfortable.

I understand it isn't for you but for anyone else in the same boat - I've sewn on several iron on patches. It is better to pick the glue off first but that is sometimes easy and sometimes impossible. It is enough of a pain to not be worth doing for a $15 scrub unless one isn't crunched for time or is really crunched for money... it would still be worth it at some of these uniform prices, though. It isn't a seam that will take pressure so it sewing skills can be really weak and it wouldn't matter.

I bought 2 sets because I have 12 hour clinicals two days in a row during my second semester. There is no way I'd come home after a 12+ hour day and do laundry before hitting the sack, only to get up at the crack of dawn to head back to the hospital. I'm thinking about buying a cheaper third pair of scrubs to keep in my car, just in case. I guess I'm lucky because I can buy any scrubs as long as they're navy. We have patches that we had to buy ($5/ea) to sew onto the sleeve. I bought my scrubs at the Uniform Outlet, so I was able to save some money.
