I have a 3yr old ds, and have a degree in psychology but have decided to become a nurse instead of getting an advanced degree in psych. I'm going the LPN-RN bridge route because I didn't want to take a chance on not getting admitted straight into an RN program. I'm really excited to start nursing school in a month, but I'm also really scared about being able to juggle it all. The LPN program I'm doing is 5 days a week 7:30-2:30. I have to continue to work part-time so that's a big worry of mine. Is anyone else going to be doing this as a single mom? Anyone who's BTDT with advice? Thanks!

I am also a single mother of a very very outgoing 2 year old. I will be starting LPN in about 6 weeks. My program is from 8am to 1pm five days a week. I am planning on putting my daughter daycare from 8 to 345. i should be home by 2 so that gives me about 2 hours to study. then hopefullu by 8pm she will be in bed which will give me about an extra 2 hours to study. I wont be able to study on sat and sunday cause i work 10 each day. so hopefully all goes well

I did it, it can be done. I'm a single mom of 3 at the time my kids aprox 18mo, 8 and 10. I worked pt and recieved very little in child support. Expect long nights and alot of studying but in the end it will be worth it.
hello
I was just looking over this thread that i posted back in july 2008. Well to update u guys i have 3 1/2 months to go until i finish my lpn school. over the past 8 months it has been diffcult working, going to school and finding time to spend with my daughter. but i managed and been doing pretty well. i manage to maintan a 85 average throughout school and and still keep my job. although i havent had much personal time to spend with my dauhter after graduation i m planning a well needed vacation to disney world where it would just be me and her. after i graduate i plan on working full time for 1 year then go on to pursue my rn degree.
Awesome and congratulations!!!!
I'm also just 8wks from finishing LPN! I was able to find a way to get through without working after the first few months, and have been at the top of my class.
I got accepted into RN in the Fall just as I had originally planned on so I basically just at the halfway point. This year went by really, really fast though, so I'm hopeful my RN year will as well!!! I still can't believe I'm almost a nurse though!
My RN program is just 4 days a week, and the hours are significantly shorter so I plan to work as an LPN while in school.

CONGRulations. everything work at very good for you. is the rn program u are joining 4 days a week including clinical days.
my program is nights, but I'm alternate for days. The good news is night graduates at the same time as days though. Class times are 3:45-5:20! I about fell off my chair when she told me that because I'm used to 8hr class days. Then two 3-11p clinicals and that's it.
