how many patients

There are so many variables. If your agency is rural the number of patients will probably be less because of travel time. If you have high acuity patients again the number will probably be less. Where I used to work (there and where I am now are both rural areas) there was a lot of dis-satisfaction and the nurses tended to drag their feet. They rarely saw more than five patients each. Where I am now we routinely see at least seven each day- usually 4 regular visits and the other three a mix of re-certs and admissions. Sometimes we see up to 12 each if we are very busy and people are on vacation, etc. We average from 50 to 120 miles per day at the agency I work at now. If there is a good atmosphere in the office and everyone feels like a part of the team, the productivity is much higher. As we all know there are slow periods in home health and times when everything just hits the fan. I'm sorry I couldn't be more specific, but hh is just too variable. If you have only done hh for several months you need to give yourself more time to get used to the paperwork and policies of the agency. Even if you have done hh at anothe agency it takes a while to adjust to the new agency. Give yourself minimum of six months to get adjusted.

The paper work is a nightmare. The company only pays you for one hour and the admission paper work is equal to about 2 hours, also you may have to return to the office to touch up some information. I respect HH nurses. Two admissions a day times 4 or 5 days is equal to a lose of 8 to 10 hours of free work do the math. six cases a day ( 4 Follow up and 2 admissions), why not 6 follow Up patients a day, you will save time and time. Just venting.

Somedays are really long. I average 5 visits a day. I have been doing home care for 6 months. My goal is to be at 6 in about 8 hours. We do all our documentation on the computer and it is MUCH LESS paper work than were I worked before in Long Term Care nursing. We see homecare and hospice patients, and an admit is counted as 2 visits. I LOVE IT!

I average 8 admits last week did all the paper work when My boss was out and took the phones to boot. which rang off the hook.24/7 even at 1 am.
