Manila: Is this true?

Published

Just a quick question to all Filipino nurses who are in the process of obtaining employment abroad:

Is it true that you need to work at least 2 years in the Philippines before you will be allowed to leave the country for employment abroad? What if after graduation you just want to start processing for overseas employment (US in particular) without taking the local board?

Thanks in advance.

A few yrs ago if you want to gain experience you have to have a contract and the min. is 2 yrs and if you resign or not complete the contract they won't credit anything. I don't know if this is still the practice.

To answer your query, you can apply right away once your transcripts are released upon graduation. An American BON usually just asks for the transcript, not the diploma and not even a license. A letter of explanation is sometimes needed why you still don't have the license but that is all.

If the school has a special program for 2nd coursers they will forward it immediately for you upon your request. They won't hold or delay you. I don't know if this is also true for schools exclusive for 1st coursers as I'm hearing a lot that they "strongly suggest" that their grads have further training and gain experience before applying. Whether the applicant like it or not if her school is "hessitant" to put it mildly to forward her transcripts for her then she can't have anything done immediately.

What is the best reason for not having a license should we include in our written explanation?

There is really no "best" reason. Just tell them your current situation.

I have not yet applied or will just be applying for this month, so and so or if you just took the exam you can say the hard license wouldn't be availabe for at least another 4-5 months (w/c is typical in the Phils). That is all. Nothing to it. They are not strict about it. I have not heard someone being rejected because of a poor letter of explanation.

Just include it if they ask for it (i.e. CA BRN). I think other BON don't even ask for it (license) or isn't really part of their req't.s
