mandatory overtime article

I just got my December issue of RN magazine, and there is a fantastic article in it concerning mandatory overtime: "Just say "NO" to mandatory overtime?" by Emil Vernarec on pp. 69-74 (with advise of counsel continuing to p 76). It is an excellent article for anyone who has to deal with mandatory overtime ( my contract has not allowed mandatory overtime since the mid-80's) and also covers accepting assignments under protest. I just checked their web site (wwwrnweb.com) but didn't see the article posted there yet. Please, for the sake of your licenses (and mental and physical health and for your families!) read the article. It should answer a lot of your questions.

Has anyone read this article yet? I posted this several days ago, but there is no response to it yet? Wouldn't it be nice if there was no response because no one ever had to do mandatory overtime? Please read the article and tell me what you think?

I have been checking the RN web site hoping the article will turn up, will comment when I read it. May make a trip to library to see if they carry the magazine.

Yes I have read the article and found it full of useful information. The information was not necessarily new to someone who has been active in trying to stop mandatory ot. It goes to the heart of why mandatory ot is such an insidious destroyer of hospital nursing. It directly effects both the safety of the patients and of the nurses themselves. One facilty in my area has no mandatory ot the other has.Guess which one has very few job opening s while the other has numerous ones.

EveryRN should read this article!
