Manager ignoring me?

Published

Hi all,

I am currently in a nurse extern position at a local hospital. I will be graduating May 2020 with my ASN. I planned on staying at the hospital and unit where I currently work but recently I've changed my mind. I've been trying to reach out to my manager for several questions I've had but when I call she never answers. I leave voice messages and she doesn't call back. I email her and she doesn't reply. As an employee its mandatory that we check emails, I just find it frustrating to feel ignored.

Is it common for managers to not respond? Or should I just start looking for different new graduate nurse positions?

If your manager is the least bit aware that you have changed your mind about pursuing employment on that unit after your nurse extern position is complete you are pretty darn low on her list of priorities right now.

Any questions you have shouldn't be related to working there since you indicate you don't plan to do so. Maybe your questions can be answered by somebody else? If not, when you see your manager ask if you can have a few minutes to get your questions answered and if the answer is no don't be offended.

There are rapidly evolving policies and procedures for management to deal with. Not to mention bed management, staffing and interruptions in the supply chain to deal with system wide. Questions from an admittedly soon to be ex employee are not a priority at this time.
