Two months under my belt at this kind of nursing mind you:
Started my day like every other at 0600. By 0900 I had one resident who's NG tube was coiled up in his throat so I had to d/c, call doc, get orders, etc; one resident who pulled her IV and was disoriented and thrashing/yelling; one who was SOB and wanted to go to the hospital but realized (after gentle reasoning which took more time than I had hoped) that if she would sit up straighter and accept her breathing tx's that it would make a world of difference; one who during a txfer somehow had two toenails ripped off and she was bleeding like a stuck pig; oh, and did I mention my med error?
Wow, this was a day that will be used as a measuring tool in my future days of nursing.
I love the ARNP who I called with the med error though. I told her that I inadvertantly gave Mr. X, Mrs. Y's Vicodin 5/500, and Ritalin 5mg. Though I was worried about the possible reprimand, she simply said: "Well, he won't be in any pain today, and he'll be well behaved to boot!" Thank God for the ARNP's who truly care about those of us who are learning!

I hope that your next shift is more relaxed, and far less chaotic!
