should all nurses have their own malpractice insurance? if so does anyone have any recommendations for policies? I've just been reading a lot of articles lately about nurses being sued or questioned and I am wondering if malpractice insurance is something I should carry.

Do a search or better yet, check the stickies at the top of the general nursing discussion forum. You'll find what you're looking for, which is "yes" & "nso".

Read the article and let me know if you have any followup questions. TL;DR: I recommend the CNA policy sold by NSO and others but there are significant coverage limitations such that you will probably not have coverage under the policy for a malpractice claim or BON investigation. Everyone thinks that if they are peripherally involved in a malpractice claim or named in a BON investigation that the insurance company will provide them with their own attorney to look out for their interests, and this is simply wrong. I recommend that everyone ask NSO about this and they will confirm it is wrong since coverage under your individual policy will not be triggered.

If you need a recommendation, then first of all you must have your convention collective for any policies. And for this issue that nurses are sued or questioned for anything, then your droit (laws) matters a lot while being a nurse. Go through it. It is mandatory for everyone.
