What are your thoughts on malpractice insurance? Even if covered under your employer, do you still carry your own?

i was always told not to get my own policy, since people can't take what isn't there (and i have no assets- lol), unless i worked for myself....
you can be sued with no assets and a judgment can be rendered against your future earnings ie wage garnishments...

What about nursing students? Would you suggest they get their own as well even if the school has you covered?

I've been sued- and it was hell. But there was nothing they could get (maybe my card table - LOL)....they also sued the administrator, DON, and weekend day nurse (this from a granddaughter that never made a peep until granny was dead from renal failure that the rest of the family had decided to not pursue with dialysis....it was settled- I was ready for court). Since all was conducted within the facility policies, the company took care of the legal bills. It was more emotionally draining than any insurance could take care of- but if people want to get it, it's not going to do damage- just give the complaintant more money. :)It's not going to hurt to have it- just saying what I had been told from day one :)

Yeah, been there, done that :) It was horrible. And a complete waste- but due to it being cheaper to settle (no-fault settlement), we didn't go to trial- I was loaded and ready for bear.... It was really sad the lady died, but worse how her one family member exploited her death for financial gain- never saw the broad while granny was alive....
