Male scholarships for male students

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi,

Just got my acceptance letter from SC4 for the LPN course in Bad Axe ,Mi.. I was talking to some friends and they thought there was a scholarship for male nurses. Does any one know which website I could go on to find out more information about this ? Does anyone have any good leads on any other scholarships availalble out there ?

Thank you in advance

I haven't seen any. I'm in nursing school and all the scholarships I've run into don't care if you are male or female.

There is a scholarship available. It is a Perkins Federal Loan. This loan is available to all people but specific to the career you are pursuing. Men in nursing, women in heating, venting, and A/C etc. If you are a minority gender in a career field dominated by one gender or the other you can apply for this money. Hopefully this makes sense.

Not sure about the LPN route either so check up on it.

Not sure on the amount though because I applied too late this semester for the money. Apparently the deadline was the 8th of Sept. and I applied on the 11th. Go figure.

It may be available on a semester basis, so you might want to start checking for the January 09 semester sooner rather than later. I know I will be.

Pebbels,

If you go to the financial aid office or wherever they handle special scholarships for single parents etc, there is a program called the Perkins Grant (not loan) which will pay for 3 pre-nursing classes if you are an underrepresented male (as you are if you are going into nursing) for any field in which males are less than 25% of the workforce. They will pay for a lot more when you are in the program.

Take care

Yes, it is a grant not a loan, sorry about the syntax error. They do not pay for a lot more once you get into the program, at least not through that particular program (If so please state the webpage I can go to so I can enroll in the program and pass it on to others who are in the program with me). There are other funds available such as the Pell Grant, but that is available to all students of course.

Well what I mean by a lot more is more than just three classes, and they will often pay for your books too. At HFCC where I study it is not done online but in person (the application).
