More motivated?

This morning in class, the faculty gave out these "Clinical Excellence Awards". You have to be nominated by a faculty member and then voted on by other faculty members. All of our faculty are female. We have about 20 guys in a class of 120 or so. They gave out 5 awards, 3 of them went to guys. So, statistically, about 20% of male students were good enough to get this "prestigious award" while only 2% of female students were. Now, I'm not saying that being male makes you a better nurse...

I did start thinking though...I think that most guys who do nursing school are probably more motivated than the average student - perhaps because of the "stigma" of being a male nurse, it discourages people who are less committed? Not saying that women aren't motivated, but I've seen several female students who chose nursing from among several unrelated career choices because it was good money and good job security, but not necessarily because they were driven to be a nurse. Make sense? What do you think?
