Male Nursing Shoes?

Nurses Men

Published

Hey everybody, I'm a new CNA, and pre-nursing student working 40 hours on a med/surg floor in an extremely busy local hospital, and by the end of the day, my feet are killing me, no matter what sneaker I wear. I'm wondering about trying some of the nursing shoes available for men. Does anybody have any suggestions? Are those clogs comfortable at all? I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

-i work in surgery, and work 12 hr shifts-so crocs are great for extended wear, they clean easily also!!!!!! crocs also accept my orthotics very nicely!!!

-they clean very easily with a surgical hand scrub brush, and luster is returned with the disposable armor all wipes that we guys use in our cars!!!!!!

One option is to go to a store specializing in running shoes, and add in a pair of insoles. These places usually let you try on as many pairs of shoes as you want and run around the store to get a feel. Some places will even measure your arch and so forth. From personal experience, each brand has their own structure, that's why I can never wear Nike's. Some stores around me include Runner's High, Snail's Pace, and Roadrunner Sports.

Having said that, I wear Z-Coils with cushion insoles. They look ridiculous and cost quite a bit, but the customer service is second-to-none and well... you wouldn't wear ACME shoes if they didn't actually work. http://www.zcoil.com

I was extremely pleased to find that Professional SUper Birkis are wide enough to accomodate my feet. I'm a 13 EEEE and while New Balance is the only shoe company that makes sneakers that fit me, I wanted something less sporty to wear with my scrubs. Once I tried them on I was hooked. I wasn't allowed to wear them in school because they weren't white, so I had a pair of professional Crocs for clinical days. I'd recommend either one, but the Birkis are the greatest.

Crocs professionals are the best. No holes on top, they breathe, and are extremely comfortable.

I have been nursing for 4 years now, I have gone through shoes on a monthly basis. Cheap ones, mid-line ones, and expensive ones.

I "invested" in a set of Z-COILS back in Nov, 2007. Most expensive shoes I've bought. I still wear them to work. http://www.zcoil.com

Do you mean Nov. of 2006 ? Otherwise, could I borrow your time machine? It will just be for a second. Which model/ Style of Z-Coil? Any problems with the open heel and cords/ tubes? In my current dept (non-nursing), on of my fellow assoc. raves about her Zcoils and has finally convinced another assoc to try them out. I'm waiting to hear what she has to say about them. She's a really big shoe hog. We went rafting for the weekend and she brought like 17 pairs of shoes and sandals.

With about 1 1/2 years of use I've had my coils snag a cord twice, so yes it is possible. But you can buy covered coils, I think they're about $40 for the pair. You can also get your coils rotated, because each side of the coil has a different stiffness. And there are also soft, medium, and hard coils; I think when you buy the shoes they come with the medium coils.

I haven't really caught my coils on cords, but while stepping on an iv pole to hold it while i'm placing a pump, had my heel get caught. I also broke one of the actual springs, so they replaced it under warranty.

You'll also get alot of comments from others about them. Everyday, patients as well as staff comment on how odd they look. But I still wear them and enjoy them.
