hello, I am a pre-nursing student. I am wondering, what is your guys salaries like, how many hours per week do you work and how much do you make per hour. Do any of you do contract work???? And if so, is contract work very excellent opportunity???

In the Houston Medical Center, ICU/ER pay varies from hospital to hospital, with the starting hourly pay from 28-34/hr. Community hospitals outside the medical center are on average 25-27.50/hour. Hope this helps.

I'm also in Sugar Land, TX and very interested in the starting salary down here. When you say 28-34 or 25-27 do you mean that starting salary an hour is 28 for regular shifts and 34 for nights? If not then how do they determin who starts at 28 and who starts at 34.

I also asked my mom's friend who just graduated last year and she said that she makes 40hr here in Houston, TX. Was she embellishing just a little or what?

The pay is based on experience and most hospitals have shift differentials. 40 for an experienced nurse is not uncommon. I have heard of some hospitals paying nurses 38 right out of school for day shift. It is dependent on the hospital, experience, and shift. Good luck to you!
