Male nurse and midwifery

Published

My only reason for going through nursing school has been to become a midwife. However, anytime I share this goal, I am met with disapproval and being told "good luck trying to get any patients." Why are male OBGYN's okay, but the moment you want to be a nurse midwife, you're told "well, females are just so much gentler"?

You should pursue it, I'm sure there are other male midwives. In San Francisco, I know of one...SFGH Midwife

There is a sitcom The Delivery Man (2015) about a cop that becomes a Nurse Midwife with story lines that include various challenges of being a man in that specialty.

I understand the frustration and exhaustion.

Thank you so much for that contact information! I know of a couple male midwives up in San Francisco, and I am just so blown away by them.
