Malcolm X Nursing Program - Chicago, Spring 2020

Published

Anyone Applying for this Spring Term? I'm so lost on how the Nursing Department is processing all submissions -- and the office has not been helpful in giving clear instructions. Anyone else who has completed this process have any tips? My biggest fear is having all requirements turned in and they are not processed.

Def go to the store and try on! I’m 5’2, bust 34 and size 2 in pants. My scrub top is an XS, pants XXS and lab coat XXS lol

Sorry, @alex ap yes I meant the CCC nursing patch lol oops.

I only bought the 4 required books. I'm gonna wait to see if the 2 optional books are worth it. The "Lippincott CoursePoint: Fundamentals of Nursing" is the only book I bought new. I got that from Amazon. My friend in the program right now said its fine to buy used books, and they will actually provide us ATI books when classes start. I got "Pharmacology and the Nursing Process" from biggerbooks.com. Then I got "Calculate with Confidence" & "Nursing Care Plans" from campusbookrentals.com. The CCC bookstore is way too expensive. You can find cheaper books with cheaper shipping fees on other sites.

I'm gonna use my old black leather shoes I bought for the CNA course.

And definitely recommend going into the store to try on the scrubs, especially if you're petite or on the larger side.

Ebooks are also a cheaper option. I hate carrying books with me so I always rent the ebook if it’s available. You can find most of them on amazon too

@elliema Very true! They are so much cheaper. I usually prefer physical books, I feel like I grasp more information that way. But ebooks are definitely good too

Thanks for posting these pics. I wondered if the uniforms ran true to size or larger/smaller. I think I’ll visit the store instead of ordering them online. Thanks for the suggestion!

Did they apply the patch for you or do you have to do it yourself?

@NellBelle714 You’re very welcome! They run larger for sure. I was drowning in them ? I’m not THAT skinny so I was surprised I was a XXS in pants and I definitely have to get them hemmed. I really suggest visiting the store and trying them on.

I just waited five minutes for them to apply the patch. I also got my stethoscope and this healthcare accessories pack from that store as well17FD061C-5948-4F4A-A713-6E3C0E90ABE4.thumb.jpeg.a2e9cca1a12870f9fa9fbd914772d040.jpeg3F7F7CEF-1B52-46E6-AC23-8C1DAEA4824A.thumb.jpeg.d57dcc05317a909d8b9475f5d785893b.jpeg (comes with bandage scissor, penlight and a multi-colored ink pen)

FYI guys. If you plan to do the test through LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics, you need to call them to put in the order. A number of us Malcolm X students went and got sent off ? I thought we could pay there. I did mine through LabCorp. The number to call to put in the order for the drug screen is: 1-888-732-2348 (RequestATest) and it costs $69 for the 9 panel urine drug screen at LabCorp. It’s $75 at Quest Diagnostics. Wish I knew this earlier ?

It’s actually cheaper if you do it through castlebranch. It was only like $36. And the location uploads the results for you!

Hi all, maybe this information will be also helpful- I did my drug test by castle branch for $34.

@alex ap ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️ Darn. Oh well lol.

@elliema

Lol for next time. Pretty sure they’re going to be requiring us to test every semester.

I visited Quest this morning and they advised me to go to my doctor for an order. The Quest representative called MX and verified what was needed. I could have paid out-of-pocket, but by getting an order from my physician indicating that the urine drug test was is a requirement for school, the insurance company picked up the cost. If BCBS PPO covers the cost, I believe other PPOs may too.
