Making Nursing Videos

Are nursing students and/or nurses with 2 years of experience or less allowed to make nursing-related information videos on YouTube?

I've been told that only MSN and DNPs can make informative nursing YouTube videos. Apparently there are a lot of nursing YouTube channels, but not all of them are MSNs or DNPs.

It's annoying, and I'm planning to call the BON and YouTube tomorrow to actually pinpoint what is and isn't allowed.

Any information you guys could share on this would be helpful.

BON could care less about nursing students and nurses doing videos. All of the nursing student videos that I have seen are informative videos about what to expect in nursing school.

Many of the nursing videos that I have seen are in service videos for their facility that they chose to share with the public. There is nothing wrong about that.

I find that very interesting, because on a large FB group I got screamed at for daring to state my interest in making informational nursing videos on YouTube.

Basically I'd make videos on things like type 2 diabetes mellitus and everything nursing management on it. They said because I was an LPN with 2 years of experience (and almost done with ADN) I had zero right to make informational videos.

This gives me hope because I had over 40 people throttle me just for voicing an interest in it.

You can do informational videos about your experience. Nursing students do videos about all aspects of nursing school. I haven't seen them do patient teaching on youtube.

Many nurses have You Tube channels about their personal experiences in nursing (first job, travel nursing, etc), but not patient teaching.

The You Tube videos that show nurses explaining procedures or patient teaching are part of their employment. They are not sitting at home on their day off making a video on diabetic teaching for patients.

The videos are more directed at nursing students who want to know what to do as nurses for 'X' disease process. Comprehensive videos that help nursing students.

These types of videos should be presented by a person with an extensive knowledge base (10-20 yrs experience). I do not consider 2 yrs experience as an LPN as an extensive knowledge base. As a nursing student, if you had a choice to watch a video on Diabetes presented by: A Diabetes Educator with an MSN degree, an RN with 15 yrs experience in a Diabetes clinic, or an LPN with 2 yrs experience. Which one(s) do you expect to be the most knowledgeable on the subject?

I've emailed my state BON and will be calling them tomorrow.

All I want to know is if I'm allowed to created study guide videos for fellow nursing students. To be frank I don't care about opinions, nor the opinion that even though I've got 2 years of nursing experience and am in good standing at school I'm apparently a "know-nothing." I reject that entirely.

Once the BON provides me an official answer, and if it's legal to do my part making helpful videos, I will start making them in the near future.
