Making a move to Dallas and looking for info!

Published

Hello all! I am a semi experienced RN looking to move to the Dallas area. I am pretty sure we have narrowed it down to Plano specifically. I've been doing a lot of research but would like to hear from some people in the workforce right now! There are a lot of postings for jobs but I am wondering realistically, with my experience, what my chances of hire are and what I can expect to earn. I've also heard shift differentials are quite nice and I actually prefer to work weekend nights so any info on that would be appreciated as well.

I have 5 years nursing experience at a level one trauma center. The last 2.5 of which have been in the SHOCK TRAUMA ICU. We have the largest and highest acuity ICU in the state. I am 2 semesters away from my bachelor's, have my BLS, ACLS, CCRN and TNCC. I am highly involved in our comitties and have recently been added to our MET and MTP response teams.

Any info on salary and great hospitals would be appreciated! I'd love to land myself at another level one trauma center if possible 😉.

You can expect to get hired easily with your experience and north Texas is a great place. I cannot tell you about acute care pay as I work in research in academia and we take lower pay for lifestyle benefits.

Your hirability is excellent. The Medical Center of Plano (now known as Medical City Plano) is the nearest Trauma hospital. I think they are now going for Level I trauma center. Other nearby hospitals are Texas Health Resources in Plano, Baylor Scott and White -Plano, Baylor Heart Hospital of Plano. The fact that you are currently finishing your BSN and have certifications will be very good. In general, Texas Health Resources will have the best pay for this area. They also have great shift differentials, a great bonus program for nurses and nice benefits. However, the nitty gritty of the ER happens at Medical City Plano. Frisco, Allen, Richardson and some parts of Carrollton and Dallas are all reasonable driving distance. In these parts you can't really get anywhere sooner than 20 minutes.

You can probably expect an offer in the low 30s for base pay.
