Is this the same company that does nursing board testing?

No, I do not think they do mine. But if they do, I am not worried.

Pearson VUE is the company that did my NCLEX. Not sure if it is the same or not, probably so. Scary, huh????

I just looked at the Pearson website, and both the education (the one that botched the SAT scores) and vue (the NCLEX testing) components were listed as being part of their services. Ouch.

Yes, this is the company that administers and grades the NCLEX. They are based in INDIA. Last summer when I took my PN boards, I had a heck of time with them. I hate talking to people who do not speak my language natively when I am under stress and especially when it is about something so important.

Not really, the nclex is computer based (with few exceptions) so I wouldn't really expect any kind of errors like those that occured with the SATs (moisture affected the scanning machine). It may not be the company, just the grading mechanism itself that is flawed.

Who cares as to the why of it?

My view is that such important tests MUST be carefully audited for scoring errors. People's futures are at stake!

My thoughts are that I agree the BON's audit everything pretty well and stay on top of things pretty close. It should make them take a close look the next time the contract comes up for renewal for providing the service. As I recall when I took boards in 97 I think Sylvan was the provider then.

It is unfortunate that Sylvan lost the contract b/c PearsonVue could do it for less. The reason Pearson VUE could do it for less was that they outsourced all of their customer service contracts to India. Serious. Check it out. Call the service center and ask for their physical location. India.

I called the service center twice last July. The first time I called I got some guy who had a very heavy accent. When he found out that I had only mailed my cheque two weeks earlier, he refused to go any fursther to see if my payment had been received. He said it would take six to eight week to process my mailed cheque. He said that if I gave a credit card right then over the phone I would not get my cheque back nor would my money be refunded but I could get a testing date that day if I was in the system. I was very unhappy. I called back and had a conversation with a young woman who checked (my payment had been received) for me. While we were waiting for the information to come up on the computer, I was talking about the weather. Long story short, she said she lives in India.

I intensely dislike out sourcing. I think Americans should be handling this. Period. No exceptions. Not only b/c it gives an out of work American a job, but b/c when I call them they speak English that sounds like the English I speak. Not only that but I feel that there are some unfair practices going on with regard to the refunding of fees.

Some will think I am racist or prejudiced.... Not racist I don't think but def prejudiced against American workers being jipped out of a job.

Pearson-Vue is an American company, they outsource to India for customer service, etc. The SATs are still pencil and paper exams and are subject to all different issues, same as when ballots were read that were scanned. We all remember that fiasco.

NCLEX exams are CAT exams, 100% computerized, no scanning issues are involved. Every persont hat takes the exam gets a different exam.

Sooner or later, this short-sighten policy of American business will come back to bite them in the assets.

It'll happen as soon as they realize the average American cannot afford their goods/services even at the lowest possible price; because they don't have jobs to pay that "rock-bottom" price.

Penny wise; pound foolishness.
