Major Working Complaints?

My friend who works OR in another hospital says that it's a soap opera there, with a lot of nutty people. I've heard similar at my hospital, with the docs having affairs with nurses, etc. This is all hear say, however.

I would hate it, I like interacting with the pts.

I'm a 21 yr old looking seriously at nursing as my career choice. I'm applying for a CNA course in the spring, and will work on my pre's for local CC nursing course after that. I'm looking at OR nursing, and wondering if any of you folks have opinions on that particular part of nursing. My only worry is that i'm seeing alot of nasty posts about how much they dislike nursing, but continue to stay on for god knows whatever reasons. Please tell me that someone actually likes being a nurse these days....

I have been a Nurse since the age of 19 1/2 yrs. old. I started out as a Practical Nurse and went for my RN a few years later. I am still in love with my profession. I work mainly in ICU/CCU and have Dialysis experience and some Open Heart experience,too.

I guess what you have to think about is this... is it ok to work hard, be looking at this for your rest of your career years? You will have a sore back, bad legs and yes you will get sick from time to time from your patients. I have it all but I still love my career choice. If I had a child in your age group I would be sending them to Pharmacy school or PA school instead. More salary with a much better and much safer career choice in every way.

I have been a nurse for 14 years and still love it. The main reason is that I have lots of opportunities. For instance, as I got older, I wanted more options so I went back to school. My heart is still in ER nursing though. And...I'm in dialysis nursing now but that doesn't mean that I have to stay there. If I become unhappy or something, I can change. I say come on over and join us. Many of us are pleased with our career choices.

I just graduated in May. I started on a cardiac medical unit at a new hospital...I had been a student on a cardiac medical unit at another hospital for 4 years during school. I loved all my coworkers but hated what I was doing. Instead of giving up on nursing I decided to transfer to a cardiovascular thoracic recovery unit and I LOVE it! It's hard, but I find it enjoyable because I'm learning new things everyday. I like nursing because if I become bored or hate my working environment I have other job choices. When I become bored again I'd like to go back to school to become an advanced practice nurse. I just need some experience so I can decide which program would suit me best.
